IZ:TDM! - Alternate Animation Styles
I think it would be in order to whip up some demonstrations of how IZ:TDM! would look were it animated in different styles.
Now, before going further, let me emphasize:
IZ:TDM! IS NOT PLANNING ON BEING IN ANY OF THESE ANIMATION STYLES.
I fully intend to animate it traditionally, like the show proper was done. However, it would be imprudent to not have a backup plan, and - to save time (since I really don’t have much to do at the moment other than boss everyone around), I would like to create a compilation of animation tests with Invader ZIM, just to see what you guys think of the different options FOR A BACKUP PLAN. I cannot emphasize enough that this is a “for emergencies only” type thing! I’d hate to see IZ:TDM! animated in any of these ways - I want it to be done traditionally, but I also want to have a fallback option.
That being said, I want to demonstrate what’s in my head, to better inform you of how this will turn out. But I want you guys to be involved, too. I want to take a clip from the show, and - using the audio from this clip - I will create differently animated versions of it to showcase what each style will look like, compared to the show’s actual style (which is what I’m aiming for in the first place).
So, go ahead and name a clip from the show (nothing too long! We’re talking 15 or 20 seconds, here) for me to use! Comment below and inform me of what you’d like to see as the guinea pig for this animation experiment. For the record, here are some of the styles I have in mind:
Anime (not crappy anime, though; well-done anime, something that would really go well with Invader ZIM’s dark humor and atmosphere)
Visual Novel Style (with anime-esque action scenes)
Sprite Animation (kinda like this; as if a videogame were brought to life)
Animated Comic (trust me on this - I have some ideas)
RPG style (similar to the sprite animation, but with a deliberate Earthbound/Undertale type feel to the dialogue - except with the actual VA’s audio instead of rapid-fire sounds matching the text)
Cel Shaded CGI
At any rate, regardless of how you like those styles or not, the thing is that I’ll be animating this clip (or clips, if there are a few very popular ones) in each of those styles, in an effort to accurately demonstrate what words alone can’t. Then, hopefully, we can settle on a fallback plan if traditional 2D animation fails (it won’t).
Please spread the word, and comment! I need as much input as I can recieve; what Invader ZIM clip do you want to see run through these tests?
